Together, members of the Madison community raised $11,451.32 for the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center during the Subway® Cares program in April.

Subway® restaurants in the greater Madison area, including the local Subway® restaurant on Sherman Avenue, participated in the program. Patrons were asked to donate at the register in addition to making their purchases.

“We are thrilled to have been able to support the UW Carbone Cancer Center through the Subway® Cares Campaign as we raised money to assist in their cancer research efforts,” said Bret Saalsaa, a local owner of several Subway® restaurants. “One way or another, we have all been affected by cancer and, as local owners in the community, this is our way to give back to a cause that we care deeply about.”

The UW Carbone Cancer Center has been a leader in cancer research and treatment over several years, including developing tamoxifen, one of the best therapies for treating and preventing breast cancer.

“A sense of community goes a long way in the fight against cancer,” said UW Carbone Cancer Center Director, Dr. Howard Bailey. “Every dollar raised goes directly toward funding research aimed at helping our neighbors and family members battling cancer. Thank you to Subway® and its customers for their support of life changing research right here in Madison.”
