Summer is finally here. As we enjoy the beautiful summer weather, I encourage you to spend some time in your local parks. We are fortunate to have so many great parks here in Madison. Exploring nature or taking a walk through a park can be therapeutic. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • June 3 ride your bike downtown during the Ride the Drive event
  • June 7 learn to play pickleball at Garner Park
  • June 30 enjoy Free Lake Access Day
  • Hike the beautiful trails at Cherokee Marsh
  • Swim at Warner Park Beach
  • Play a round of disc golf  at Heistand Park
  • Round up the family and take a picnic at Tenney Park

No matter what you enjoy, Madison Parks has something for you.

Family Fun Nights will conclude its fourth year with record attendance. We thank everyone for the continued support in making these family events a huge success. I met so many families from the Northside and appreciate all the families that traveled from surrounding communities to enjoy a night out with us.

If you have not had the opportunity to experience Family Fun Night with your family, I encourage you to stop by June 8 as we host our last one of this school year with an End of School Year theme.

There will be no Family Fun Night in July or August; they will resume Sept. 14.

The WPCRC will be collaborating with Northside Safe and Thriving Community and Madison Public Library to extend evening building hours for teen programming Wednesday and Friday evenings beginning June 27.

In April we started a Friday night 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament series for middle school and high school students. Tournaments are free and organized on-site. Players simply have to show up; we provide a free meal, free skills clinic, live music and prizes for the winners. The last two tournaments will be held June 1 and June 15. If you are interested in getting involved, volunteering or learning about sponsorship opportunities, please let me know.

As summer begins, come enjoy Warner Park and stop by the WPCRC to say hello. We look forward to another great summer of events and activities. Stay connected by liking our Facebook page, Warner Park Community Recreation Center.
