The fall General Election will take place Nov. 3. This General Election is for president, U.S. representatives, even-numbered Wisconsin State Senate seats, all Wisconsin Assembly seats and all district attorneys.

You can go to myvote.wi.gov to request an absentee ballot, make sure you’re registered to vote, and see what is on the ballot. As a reminder, you will need to re-register to vote if you’ve moved and must reside at your new address for 28 consecutive days prior to the election.

Eligible Wisconsin voters with a valid Wisconsin Driver License or Wisconsin State ID Card can register online at myvote.wi.gov. You will be required to upload a picture of your photo ID before your municipal clerk can process your request for an absentee ballot. If you don’t have an approved voter ID, the DMV is open for the purpose of getting one. Bring a certified birth certificate, Social Security card and a utility bill to your local DMV. Expedite and limit your contact with other people on your trip to the DMV by setting up an appointment in advance. Head to bringit.wi.gov to verify you have the proper ID needed to vote.

Clerks are doing everything they can to make this election safe for voters. To keep voters safe, I encourage everyone to vote absentee if they can. Recent confusion and changes to management at the United States Postal Service emphasize the need for voters to request and return their absentee ballot as soon as possible. This is critical to ensuring that every voter’s voice is heard. With more than 23,000 absentee ballots rejected in the April primary, voters should take precautionary measures to ensure their vote counts if they choose to vote with an absentee ballot.
