Stepping up for our older adults

This winter NESCO started two new initiatives for the older adults we serve; and thanks to you, our Northside neighbors, both were very successful.

On Thanksgiving Day NESCO, in collaboration with Door Creek Church and the South Madison Coalition of the Elderly, delivered approximately 230 meals to homebound older adults, including 60 here on the Northside. The food was donated by wonderful individuals. Many caring volunteers prepared the meals at the FEED Kitchens and many other volunteers then delivered the meals to the older adults. It meant a great deal to those receiving meals.

In December NESCO set up an Angel Tree in the lobby of the Warner Park Community Recreation Center. The tree held 80 cards with gift requests for older adults currently served by NESCO case managers. All requests were generously filled. When NESCO staff delivered the presents, a number of older adults were brought to tears. Gifts included essentials like winter clothing and food gift cards. The recipients were all so grateful.

We also want to thank the members of Bethel Lutheran Church who for many years have bought presents for the Latino older adults, living throughout Dane County, who are served by NESCO.

NESCO is proud of the way Northsiders step up to help our elders in times of need. What might seem so little to some can be a lifesaver for others. Thank you for being so caring.
