It is definitely summer out there and we are still facing the pandemic of COVID-19. It has certainly changed the way we walk through our days. With the help of scientists, I believe we will get past this, although not as soon as we would like to. I don’t think things will ever be quite the same again.

Dane County government is working hard to provide support and guidance through our current situation. There are eviction prevention support programs, grants helping businesses, augmentation of food pantry services, among many others. Neighbors are also helping neighbors by assisting with things like essential errands and making masks.

The free COVID-19 test site at the Alliant Energy Center will stay open at least through Aug. 31. People are able to drive up or walk in. The National Guard has been assisting with the efforts at this site. Collaboration with community partners has also led to pop-up free testing sites throughout the county. There are plans to have a permanent free testing site near the Public Health Madison & Dane County office on Park Street, but this is still in the planning stage. Testing teams will continue to be sent to facilities as those needs arise.

The Department of Public Health Madison and Dane County recommends that you be tested immediately if you have symptoms of COVID-19. If you think you may have been exposed, but are not showing symptoms, they recommend waiting 3‒5 days to get tested, due to the incubation period; while you are waiting to be tested, you should isolate yourself at home.

If you think you need a test, please get one. It’s free, and the results only take a few days to get back.
