Isthmus Vet Care is open

In response to the statewide shelter in place order, Isthmus Veterinary + Care has moved to a no-contact model. We are allowing only clinic staff and animal patients into our clinic at this time. We are open and maintaining our regular hours and will continue to schedule appointments for sick pets or emergent needs.

If you have any questions about continued care or medications for your pet, please contact our clinic at 608-230-5499 or info@isthmusvetcare.com.

We appreciate your support and understanding.

Dear Dr. Marc,

My cat Munster is an escape artist. I try to keep him inside but he somehow manages to slip past me when I open the door. He always comes back but I worry about him. Anything I should do to make sure I don’t lose him?

Jacob O.

Hi Jacob,

Keeping cats strictly indoors is highly recommended, but I do understand your dilemma. Some cats will do anything and everything to get outside. My highest recommendation for your situation is to make sure Munster (or should we call him Houdini?) is microchipped.

Microchipping is a fast, safe and inexpensive way to make sure your pet can always be traced back to you. Veterinarians can insert a microchip as quickly and painlessly as a vaccination. The chip, which is about the size of a grain of rice, is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades. If your pet is then lost and brought to a vet clinic or shelter, it would be scanned and you would be contacted immediately.

Unlike collars, which can easily fall off, the microchip is permanent and can’t be separated from your pet. Microchips last a lifetime. Contact your vet to have Munster microchipped right away.
