Arree Macon (front row, seated), poses with members of the Northside Youth Leadership Advisory group at their June 20 graduation ceremony at Warner Park Community Recreation Center. Macon, a youth navigator for the Northside Planning Council, organized and led this leadership opportunity for middle schoolers at Black Hawk and Sherman Middle Schools. As part of their participation, students attended Teen Summit 2019 in Wisconsin Dells, where they participated in workshops and explored issues around youth leadership. They also held a fundraiser at Culver’s and wrote grants to create an emergency fund for their peers to help cover the cost of bus passes, shoes and other needed items. They plan to administer the funds during the 2019-2020 school year. Family and friends attended the graduation to celebrate the teens’ accomplishments and growth.
