So far the summer has been peaceful on the Northside. We have seen an increase in burglaries and theft from autos, but we have made a number of arrests. Please help us by not keeping valuables in your vehicle and locking the doors to your cars and home.

The North Police District staff has been working on a number of outreach projects and programs.

  • We offered Guerilla Cookouts where officers randomly setup a grill in a neighborhood and gave away free grilled hotdogs to children and adults who filled out a short survey.
  • We coordinated a group of businesses to help solve quality of life issues occurring in the neighborhood.
  • We coordinated a program that helps hotels on East Washington Avenue communicate with each other about problem people.
  • We held a Cops and Bobbers fishing outing (described in the June/July edition); it went well with lots of fish caught and the children having a great time.

The Mental Health Officer has been helping residents with mental health issues receive the help they need, before it gets to the crisis level.

Every day officers are involved in outreach on a one-on-one basis.

We did an operation that we hope will end the sale of synthetic marijuana by a business that owns a number of stores on the Northside. After making three buys and executing two search warrants, we recovered 3,055 packages of synthetic marijuana, which weighed more than 38 pounds and had a street value of $108,000. The owner of the businesses received citations totaling more than $12,000.
