February is an exciting time within the Madison Police Department as the annual shift change is scheduled Feb. 9. Each year patrol officers, detectives and sergeants select their work assignments and work schedules based on their department seniority. Closed position assignments and some promotions also become effective on the February shift change date.

North District Neighborhood Resource Officer Gregg Sosoka has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and will remain in the North District supervising the night shift. East High School Resource Officer Zulma Franco has been promoted to the rank of detective and will be assigned to the Burglary Unit working with the Central District. We are fortunate to have the services of Officer Charles Warren as the East High School Resource Officer and Officer Ruben Garcia as the Neighborhood Resource Officer in 2020.

We congratulate Sergeant Troy Faust, Officer Sean Zeigler and Officer Mike Martin on their recent retirements. All three have worked a majority of their careers serving the North District and have a combined 70 years of service with the Madison Police Department.

There are currently 60 officers, detectives and supervisors assigned to the North Police District. Other than retirements or promotions, a vast majority of those officers have elected to remain in the North District for 2020.

The North District station is the smallest facility of the six police districts and there are needs for additional space for workstations, locker rooms, meeting space and parking. The current station has been branded as “cozy” and officers recognize the sense of community that we enjoy while working on the Northside.
