Quarterly Book Sale
The Friends of Lakeview Library Quarterly Book Sale is Saturday, March 16, 9 am‒3 pm, with a members-only sale Friday, March 15, 6‒7:45 pm, and a Saturday bag sale 1‒3 pm. All proceeds fund library programs. Children may choose one free book.

Salt and Its Healing Properties
Tuesday, Feb. 12, 6‒7 pm
Katy Wallace, of Traditional Naturopath of Human Nature LLC, presents ways that our bodies demonstrate salt imbalances such as Candida overgrowth, SIBO, stomach acid issues, low and high blood pressure, hormonal problems and over-acidity. We’ll discuss the various sources of salt available to consumers and how to incorporate raw salts into your regular routine. This event is vegan, gluten-free and grain-free. Memory Cloth Circle: Exploring Stitching and Inspiring Women
Monday, March 4, 5:30‒7:30 pm
In honor of Women’s History Month, Memory Cloth Circle members invite children and adults to remember women who inspired them, tell their stories and stitch with us. We will provide materials and guidance in embroidery and share our experiences. We were inspired by Amazwi Abesifazane, Voices of Women, in South Africa. We are grateful for those courageous women who began making Memory Cloths to tell their stories of Apartheid; they have asked us to share their process in the U.S. They are delighted that we have.

Movie Night: “Ocean’s 8”
Friday, March 8, 6 pm
Five years, eight months, 12 days and counting — that’s how long Debbie Ocean has been devising the biggest heist of her life. She knows it’s going to take a team of the best people in the field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller. Together, they recruit a crew of specialists, including jeweler Amita, street con Constance, suburban mom Tammy, hacker Nine Ball and fashion designer Rose. Thursdays, 10 am‒12 pm, and Saturdays, 9–11 am, by appointment
We offer free one-on-one sessions for help with basic computer and internet literacy, including online job searching and applications, using email and Facebook, and e-reader setup and assistance. Call 246-4547 to make an appointment.

Cookbook Book Club: Soul Foods
Tuesday, Feb. 5, 6–7 pm
Pick out a recipe from a soul food cookbook (or use your own recipe) and make a dish to share at this community gathering. The library will have soul food cookbooks on display beginning Jan. 22. Tableware and refreshments will be provided by Lakeview Library and Willy Street Co-op.

Movie Night: “Loving”

The story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a couple whose arrest for interracial marriage in 1960s Virginia began a legal battle that would end with the Supreme Court’s historic 1967 decision. Rated PG-13. Light refreshments will be served.

Muriel Simms, author of “Settlin’: Stories of Madison’s Early African-American Families,” will speak at the Friends of Lakeview Library annual meeting. Refreshments at 6 pm, brief meeting at 6:30 pm, followed by Ms. Simms’ presentation. This is a free event.
