Madison Starlings Volleyball Club

Since the Madison Starlings Volleyball Club originated in 2011, it has been our mission to provide club volleyball experience to underrepresented minority and low-income youth. In addition, our goal has been to get a group of athletes to the National Volleyball Championships held in San Diego, California. The 2017-2018 volleyball season was the year this goal was met, and to honor this achievement, a Gratitude Attitude Ceremony was held Oct. 7 at Warner Park Community Recreation Center.

The 17 athletes who attended the Starlings National Tournament in San Diego in June played in the 15‒16 age group. While getting a chance to play competitive volleyball, they also got to explore the area, see the ocean and play volleyball on the beach.

In honor of their achievements, all participants were given a challenge coin that was designed by a player in our club. The commemorative coin included the club name, the year and the three values shared by every member of the team — respect, integrity and leadership. The challenge for every athlete this season was to play big and dream beyond what they believe possible. It is clear these athletes never backed down from adversity, and in the eyes of this organization, they walked away from this experience as champions.

During the ceremony, the original players from the first season of 2011‒2012 were honored, along with supporters and financial donors, like the Joan Hansen Foundation, Rubin’s Kids and the Madison Community Policing Foundation. All of these individuals and organizations contributed to the success our organization experienced this past year.
