Margaret’s Fund: A Northside Scholarship is accepting applications for its 2020 award. This $1,000 scholarship is open to any Northside adult returning to post-secondary school.

College is expensive in many ways beyond tuition and books, the two areas covered by most scholarships. Because Margaret’s Fund is unrestricted, the recipient can use the award to pay for some of the often forgotten extra costs of college, such as childcare, computers, transportation, supplies or special fees.

To apply, you must be a Northside resident and accepted into a degree- or certificate-seeking program for the 2020-21 academic year, whether enrolling for the first time this fall or continuing in a program. Preference is given to applicants who actively participate or volunteer in Northside organizations and have overcome substantial obstacles or challenges to success.

The application and full guidelines are available at northsideplanningcouncil.org/margaretsfund. This is an on-line application, but if access is a problem, contact the organizers for alternative options. The application requires one letter of recommendation from a non-family member. The deadline to apply is July 1, 2020.

This will be the 12th year of a Margaret’s Fund award, with previous awards going to Tara Hoffman (2009), Nicole Tackes (2010), Stacey Yang (2011), Omobolanle Kikelomo Olumbi (2012), Chekwube Obieze (2013), Melissa Marie Alexander (2014), Aminata Bojang (2015), Felicia Jones (2016), Vanessa Kana (2017), Terri Hatchett (2018), René Bedolla (2019) and Josselin Ceballos De
Santiago (2019).

Margaret’s Fund is professionally managed by the Madison Community Foundation. Donations are tax deductible, very much appreciated, and contribute to ongoing community support of our neighbors striving to expand their opportunities and meet admirable goals. Thanks to ongoing contributions, the scholarship amount is increased to $1,000 this year.
