BSA Troops 127/7127

The boys and girls of Northside Scouts BSA Troops 127/7127 continue to meet weekly in person, socially distanced, even with cooler weather. The sun may be going down sooner but the fun and learning continues.

Since being outside is the best choice for groups, the boys and girls have been going on hikes and working on conservation projects in the area surrounding the Cherokee Marsh North Unit.

On Sept. 19, the girls spent the day working on their camping, cooking and fire building skills. The day started with cooking breakfast (as individuals), learning about nutritional choices in menu planning for the outdoors, and using different types of gas stoves and observing how they work.

The rest of the day was spent working on ax and knife skills and preparing wood for the fires they learned to build. The girls also had contests in setting up tents while blindfolded, which encouraged working as a team to achieve a goal.

The troops continue to work toward a possible goal of getting on their postponed backpacking trip to Isle Royale National Park.

Both troops meet weekly at St. Peter Catholic Church on Wheeler Road.

If these activities sound like something your boy or girl aged 11‒18 might enjoy, send an email to Scoutmaster Justin Sargent (boys) at iscuba@sbcglobal.net, or Scoutmaster Paul Hughes (girls) psusparks@gmail.com for more information.

See you on the great Northside.
