The Northside News will celebrate 25 years of community journalism this August. In our 2019 October/November issue, we looked back at some of the first articles ever published in the paper as Northside residents campaigned to build Warner Park Community Recreation Center, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last fall. The first years of the paper chronicled fundraising efforts for the Center, as well as the efforts of residents to conserve the land on Troy Drive.

In this issue, a cover page story continues online with information about the next chapter for Troy Land & Gardens as Community GroundWorks and Center for Resilient Cities merge to form Rooted. We also feature information about ways that Northside residents are taking action in their communities today through civic engagement (pages 17-22).

A large section of this issue (pages 7-10) is devoted to introducing some of the businesses who will be catering the Northside Planning Council’s event Taste the Future this March. Additional information about each of these entrepreneurs is available online; links are listed below each business name on the event ad facing this page and will be shared with the articles at facebook.com/thenorthsidenews. Taste the Future 2020 is free and open to the public. Free tickets will be available online in March.

Stay tuned for information about the ways that the Northside News will be celebrating 25 years of publishing stories by, for and about Northsiders to keep communities connected.

I’d like to close with an enthusiastic thank you to our (growing!) team of volunteer proofreaders. If you catch a mistake in the paper, that’s on me, but you would be catching many more if it weren’t for their diligent work before we go to press.
