Sharing experiences, stories and learned knowledge with others is a major benefit of living in a healthy community. Northside resident Dennis Nolan has a lifetime of experience making photographs, both commercially and personally. For him it’s time to share the experiences and knowledge with others.

Beginning Feb. 12 and continuing every second Wednesday through November, Nolan will be teaching a master course in photography, “The Art and Craft of Photography,” at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center. Classes will run from 6:30‒8 pm. All classes will be presented free to the public.

The classes will cover a wide range of processes and factors involved in making photographs. From discussing why we make photographs to mastering the tools used to make them, Nolan will explore a broad range of concepts and techniques used in the visualization, planning and execution of still photographs. The series focus is geared toward anyone who wants to learn how to make their photographs more closely represent what they see in their mind.

Each month’s class will cover a different aspect of image making behind the camera and the elements that affect them. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in multiple photographic exercises throughout the year followed by in-class reviews. No previous photography experience is required, only a desire to learn and explore.

Nolan has worked as a commercial photographer in the advertising, corporate and editorial markets for 20 years. His work experience has taken him around the globe, working in a variety of countries and cultures. From Istanbul in a 300-year-old bathhouse with a small Turkish man walking up and down on his back to sharing a campfire with the Marlboro Man, Nolan’s life experiences have helped shape the creativity and effectiveness of his photography for both his clients and himself.
