Independent Living, Inc. is pleased to announce that Brian Miller has joined the nonprofit organization as chief executive officer (CEO). Miller brings extensive experience in social services, housing development, fundraising and strategic planning.

“Brian has demonstrated a tremendous aptitude for leadership throughout his 26-year career in public service,” said Brent Lindell, president of the Independent Living, Inc. Board of Directors. “We are confident in his skills and vision for Independent Living.”

Most recently, Miller was chief development officer for Journey Mental Health Center. He returned to Madison after serving in Amman, Jordan, for Operation Mercy Sweden. Prior to that, he was senior director of the Global Capital Campaign for Habitat for Humanity International, where he was responsible for the planning and roll-out of a $4 billion global fundraising campaign. Miller’s connection with Habitat for Humanity began in Madison, where he was executive director from 2003‒2008.

“I am thrilled to join the team at Independent Living. The need for high quality, affordable housing and services for senior members of our community has never been greater,” commented Miller. “We’ll work really hard on behalf of our residents and clients to exceed their expectations and strive toward the vision that every older adult and person with a disability in our community has a decent place to live and thrive.”

Miller takes over for John Hecht, who served as interim CEO during the search process. Lindell expressed appreciation for Hecht, noting, “The members of our board thank John for his astute leadership and business acumen addressing significant issues that occurred. His financial background has been an additional asset, and we’re grateful that he accepted this extended consulting role.”

Independent Living, Inc. offers a comprehensive array of in-home services, health care and housing communities to help seniors and adults with disabilities live with independence in the best way possible.
