Construction is well underway at 1936 Tennyson Lane as the Tennyson Senior Living Community campus begins to take shape.

This new property will address a great need on Madison’s northeast side and will include a number of appealing features. Among them is a Health & Wellness Center for seniors at all levels of fitness. The signature feature, however, is a unique, warm water aquatic therapy pool with an underwater treadmill by HydroWorx.

The pool features an at-grade entry so the pool floor can descend from one to four feet in depth. This safety feature will allow seniors who are otherwise limited by mobility to safely partake in beneficial aquatic therapy — and the list of benefits is long.

The underwater treadmill allows participants to walk at their own pace virtually pain-free. Another opportunity is using the pool for stationary aerobic workouts. The water resistance can help increase strength and range of motion, while natural buoyancy can help improve balance.

The pool at the Tennyson Senior Living Community will serve individuals with a variety of health concerns. “With warm water therapy, those who are particularly affected by arthritis and joint problems report significant changes in their flexibility, strength and endurance,” explained Tennyson Project Development Director Rita Giovannoni.

The pool at the new Tennyson Senior Living Community will be a vital asset to area seniors. There is currently only one other like it in the Madison area. Access to this state-of-the-art, warm water aquatic therapy pool will offer a host of much-needed services to Madison’s northeast side.

“The pool and the Health & Wellness Center will be open and available to all residents at Tennyson Senior Living Community. But it also will be open to a broader community in the neighborhood,” said Giovannoni. “This is a place where the mature adult will find camaraderie and experience fitness programs designed and customized just for them.”

Independent Living’s hope is that the pool will be just one of many features at the Tennyson Senior Living Community that provide Madison’s elders and active seniors the opportunity to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
