With schools and workplaces closing to reduce community spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, many families have been left scrambling to find a way to pay the bills and put food on the table. A new partnership is fundraising to bring meals to community centers across Madison.

The Northside Planning Council (NPC) and FEED Kitchens, the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County and Selfless Ambition launched FEED To Go with the delivery of meals to the Boys & Girls Club on Taft Street, the Boys & Girls Club in Sun Prairie, as well as Northside Madison sites Kennedy Heights Community Center and Vera Court Neighborhood Center. An additional $20,000 was granted by the Housing Ministries of Wisconsin to expand the service to Northport Apartments and Packer Townhouses.

NPC is contracting with diverse local food entrepreneurs to create and package the meals. FEED To Go will not only ensure that thousands of meals are prepared and distributed, but will help entrepreneurs stay in business while also creating culturally relevant foods for home-bound individuals.  NPC is working with volunteers to pick up the meals at FEED each day by 3 pm to take to each site. NPC uses its text broadcasting service to send daily text updates to let interested residents know when and where meals will be delivered. FEED To Go is supporting food insecure households while keeping people employed in a safe and sustainable way.

Businesses involved with food preparation at FEED include El Wiscorican, Melly Mel’s, Ahan, Cafe Costa Rica, and Jolly Frog. More businesses will be contracted with as funds become available.
