Last year, FEED Kitchens began producing the “FEED Kitchens Table Talk” podcast series, highlighting the entrepreneurs behind some of your favorite local dishes created by the chefs doing business this Northside food business entrepreneur hub. The variety of cuisines produced at FEED Kitchens hints at the diversity of backgrounds and paths to entrepreneurship for these business owners, and we are excited to continue telling these stories in 2024.

So far, we have interviewed food cart vendors, sauce makers and caterers and feel as though we are just getting started. We are looking forward to diving deeper into many more aspects of our local food system, including the work of farmers, small-scale growers, and food recovery initiatives. We also want to provide a spark of inspiration for those interested in starting their own food business. Our discussions so far inevitably steer toward the practical and logistical aspects of entrepreneurship as well as giving an inside scoop on some of the financial and marketing knowledge gleaned by our guests along their journey.

Our first episode featured Chef Thony Clarke of Cafe Costa Rica, whose food cart and sauces have been a staple of the Madison food scene for over 20 years. We got to hear about his upbringing in Costa Rica, his years on the road as a touring musician, and eventual move to Madison where he started building his own business. His story and many others are available now for your listening enjoyment.

Hosted by local jazz musician and WORT radio host Tony Castañeda, and produced by Frankie Pobar Lay, listen in to hear more from the chefs behind some of Madison’s tastiest dishes. Available wherever you listen to your podcasts.
