The River Food Pantry shares Bombas socks with local nonprofits After receiving its largest sock donation from Bombas, The River Food Pantry is ‘knee deep’ in socks for the rising number of individuals needing assistance due to COVID-19. MADISON, Wis. — August 13, 2020 — Dane County men and women experiencing food insecurity and housing instability amid COVID-19 will receive thousands of new, warm, comfortable socks this year. Bombas donated 60,000 pairs of socks to The River Food Pantry to provide to over 1,000 households each week through the organization’s curbside grocery distribution and mobile lunch program, MUNCH. For each pair sold, Bombas donates a pair of socks to charities nationwide.“The River cannot thank Bombas enough for this massive donation of high-quality socks to help the homeless and low-income individuals we serve during this challenging time,” said Rhonda Adams, Interim Executive Director of The River. The River has also begun sharing thousands of socks with local nonprofit organizations that serve homeless, in-need and at-risk communities including Friends of the State Street Family, Hope’s Home Ministries, an outreach of First United Methodist Church, Porchlight, Port St. Vincent de Paul, Yahara House, Shelter from the Storm Ministries, and Badger Prairie Needs Network. “As the need for assistance continues to rise throughout the county due to COVID-19, we are grateful to collaborate with other nonprofits in the area to help get these socks on the feet of more people dealing with food insecurity, homelessness and other hardships, especially with colder weather just around the corner,” Adams said. Hope’s Home Ministries of First United Methodist Church received 1,000 pairs of socks from The River.“What a blessing to receive this generous gift of Bombas socks in time to prepare for our fall emergency packages for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty in this great time of need,” said Karen Andro, Director of Hope’s Home Ministries, an outreach of First United Methodist Church.
