Healthy Food For All

The Northside Planning Council’s food recovery project, Healthy Food for All, continues to be impactful in our community by making food available to families in need by using excess from large cafeterias and events and collecting and aggregating produce from local farms. After three full years of operation we have now delivered over 330,000 pounds of healthy food options throughout Dane County.

While maintaining its niche in the food recovery world during 2019, HFFA has added a few new initiatives. During the summer we expanded our Buy One for A Neighbor farmer’s market donation initiative to the Eastside Farmer’s Market on Tuesday evenings. We also took a big leap and worked with American Family Insurance and Waste Management to collect excess food from the AmFam PGA Championship tournament this past summer at University Ridge. This collection brought in nearly 1.5 tons of food in one collection.

We are honored to partner with all of our donors and we were especially happy to work with the Aldo Leopold Nature Center on a Green Events Initiative, as well as to add Monona Terrace Convention Center to our roster. Finally, Healthy Food for All continues to be an active voice in our community for climate change mitigation and the role food waste reduction plays in creating solutions.
