Winter Farmers Market nears

Northside Farmers Market

The end of the outdoor season can be unpredictable. Will comfortable weather continue to the end of October, or will we be shivering under pop-up tents when the first snow begins to fly? The market dates are planned well in advance and there is no way to know if we could have stayed outdoors a little longer; moving inside in late October reduces unpredictability while still taking advantage of the ample produce available.

We are pleased to announce something new this year — the Northside Farmers Market will move indoors at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center (WPCRC) from Oct. 29‒Dec. 17, 10 am‒1 pm. (Note the change in hours.) Our final outdoor market will be Oct. 22, so we can transition from the outdoor season to the indoor season without skipping a week.

The WPCRC is located at 1625 Northport Dr. Join us there for this eight-week indoor market. Recipients of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) will still be eligible for the Double Dollars program as that continues into December, pending fund availability.

As we enter the Thanksgiving season, we want to express gratitude to the many people who make the market happen: Dave and Don Bruns, who generously allow the market to use space at Northside TownCenter; market managers, Sabrina and Matt, who respond to each challenge with a smile and determination to resolve it; the board of directors, who make a commitment to oversee the market; and the many volunteers who help with set up and take down and run the information booth. We thank Willy Street Co-op for sending Robert Halstead to us each month to process EBT transactions. We also thank the vendors who brave changes in the weather and work hard to provide quality food for our community. And finally we thank you, our customers, who value locally produced food. We are glad to celebrate the season with you all each week.

Look for announcements via Facebook or our website for vendors who will be at the fall/winter market. Sign up for our newsletter (northsidefarmersmarket.org) and find us on Facebook (facebook.com/madNFM) to join our page and receive updates.
