I hope everybody had a great summer. Fall is here and children are back in school. Where has this year gone?

This summer the Northside experienced an increase in thefts from autos (mostly unlocked vehicles), but overall it was a safe summer. We were busy working with residents in solving problems in their neighborhoods and were successful because of these partnerships. We also attended many events, where we made new friends and had a lot of fun. Some events were organized by the police, but most were organized by the neighborhoods. We appreciate the invitations and the help we received this summer.

On Aug. 31, Northside residents sponsored an officer appreciation and open house event at the North Police District. Residents and officers socialized over great food in a festive atmosphere. We enjoyed giving tours of the station, where residents learned how we function and we could show off artwork by East High students that we have displayed and our large police department patch collection.

businesses that made this event possible. We are very grateful the event occurred and look forward to continuing our work with the residents of the Northside to make this the best place to live and play.

Captain assignments have been made, and I will continue to be captain of the North Police District in 2017. I look forward to working with all of you this coming year. We have already started planning for our district in-service at the UW-Hospital American Center Jan. 13, 2017.
