Warner Pool project will take longer to fund

The feasibility study to build an addition of an indoor aquatic center to the Warner Park Community Recreation Center (WPCRC) has been completed. Most of the respondents were very complimentary of WPCRC and its mission, and very positive about the plan for a comprehensive indoor aquatic center.

Although the project was generally well received, it was clear that the funding potential for the project, as currently designed, will take much longer than we had planned. As a result, the Circle of Friends (CoF) will reevaluate our plans and consider alternatives to reduce the cost and involve more leaders in the swim community.

In the meantime, we do not want to hold up the addition of the needed activity and meeting rooms at the WPCRC. The CoF will work with staff to place the addition behind the gym, so when funds for the aquatic center are raised, the area behind the WPCRC will be available for the aquatic center.

Based on comments in the study that support the need for a comprehensive indoor pool facility, CoF will continue to work on filling this void so everyone has an opportunity for affordable swim lessons.
