VSA Wisconsin invites the public to join in the celebration of Visual Expressions: A Call for Art exhibit and reception May 4, from 2‒4 pm at the VSA Gallery, 1709 Aberg Ave.

More than 250 unique works of art will be on view in a wide variety of media, including portraits, abstracts, unique 3-D sculptures, ceramics and mixed media. The exhibition includes popular Madison artists as well as established, emerging and youth artists from across the state. Among the works are 10 award winners that will be added to VSA Wisconsin’s traveling exhibition in June. Attendance is free of charge and refreshments will be served. As an extra bonus, many of the works are for sale at the event.

Each year, VSA Wisconsin solicits artwork from Wisconsin residents with disabilities, ages 5 and up. Work by all artists who submit work in response to the annual Call for Art will be displayed in Visual Expressions: A Call for Art Exhibition, open to the public April 14‒May 4. Artists’ submissions are reviewed by a jury of arts professionals who look for creativity, originality and craftsmanship. Jurors select 10 artworks that will be added to Creative Power: VSA Wisconsin’s Traveling Exhibition.

Key dates:

  • Exhibition opens to the public April 14–May 4, Monday‒Thursday, 9 am‒4:30 pm and by appointment
  • Gallery Night participation Friday, May 3, 5‒8 pm
  • Award Ceremony Saturday, May 4, 2‒4 pm

This project is made possible by generous support from National Guardian Life, the Wisconsin Arts Board, Endres Manufacturing Foundation, The Brittingham Fund/Madison Trust, Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation and MG&E Foundation.
