WMUU is a low-power FM radio station that has been broadcasting from a 30-foot antenna on top of Capitol Lakes Retirement Community on Main Street since early this year. WMUU’s broadcast signal extends to a 10-mile radius and can reach nearly 111,000 people in the Madison area, including the Northside.

The station’s mission is to disseminate educational and cultural programs, including news, public affairs, science and research to a mature audience. One goal is to bring all the vibrancy of our community to an audience which may find its own shrinking due to mobility and/or perceptual issues.

Operating 24/7, the station broadcasts a wide range of syndicated programming that presents meaningful perspectives and useful information about important issues of the day. You can hear everything from United Nations Radio news to phenology reports by The Nature Conservancy called “Wisconsin Nature Notes,” and a show on the arts in Madison called “Buzz and Suzan’s Funky Little Art Show.”

Each weekday afternoon from 3:30‒5:30 pm, the station features locally recorded talks organized along the following themes: Global Monday, FYI Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Environmental Thursday and Science Friday. There are programs from local organizations like the UW Mini-Med School, Madison Institute, League of Women Voters and Capitol Lakes.

You can hear local bands on Saturdays from 7‒9 pm, broadcast live from Common Ground Café in Middleton.

WMUU serves to explore social issues across various aspects of society with a view toward extending democratic principles and promoting economic justice. In addition, the station has identified two initiatives which it will work to cover as research and information grows: climate change and Alzheimer’s disease. They will partner with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and UW-Alzheimer’s Disease and Research Center as they continue to report on these topics.

Tune in to WMUU at 102.9 FM. If you aren’t quite in range, you can stream online at tunein.com/radio/WMUU-LP-1029-s253985/.
