Steve and Sherry Kimball nominated Eugene “Gene” Haug for a 2017 North Star Award because he truly represents the definition of a “good neighbor.”

“We have been neighbors of Gene’s for the past 15 years and have consistently seen him support all of his neighbors in a selfless and friendly manner. He lends support as needed, whether it is a one-time ‘ask’ or sustained support for a duration of time. Gene actively mows lawns, shovels snow and lends personal equipment or tools if requested. Due to his caring nature, one is never left feeling like they are indebted to him for his support. Whether it is a conversation or a friendly wave, our interactions with Gene always leave us with a smile on our faces.

Gene also extends this support to the larger Northside Community. He is an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Through this, Gene is an engaged community member and is a welcomed face at many different activities.

We feel fortunate to have Gene as a neighbor and part of the larger Northside Community. He truly makes a difference in others’ lives. Simply stated, Gene is deserving of a North Star Award because he makes the Northside a great place to live.”
