The informal theme for this issue is Summer on the Northside, inspired by the quantity of early submissions and story ideas we received about events and programs taking place in June and July in all corners of the Northside.

While many are all-ages gatherings — from Make Music Madison, Increase the Peace and NorthGate Neighbors Market Fests, to the anniversary celebration of the Dane County Regional Airport — there are also opportunities for younger ages to make the most of months out of school. Community GroundWorks offers a kids camp and Lindbergh Summer Library returns with free, hands-on programming.

Intentional spaces for teens will open up as well. Warner Park Community Recreation Center will host open gym for teens, as well as weekly Teen Nights July through August. Lakeview Library welcomes new Teen Librarian Robin Amado as they get ready to kick off Saturday Night Library at the end of June, with evening activities for youth in grades 7-12.

And as people flock outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather, the business section feature local dining options — including a flavorful introduction to Northside fish fries.

The theme inspired us at the Northside Planning Council to consider our own summer on the Northside. The Northside Planning Council section shares some of the partnerships and planning that have carried us from winter into spring, and promise a full summer.
