Like all Northside Planning Council programs, the Northside News has its home in the shared offices of FEED Kitchens. Despite the variety of work accomplished by these projects — from food recovery (Healthy Food For All) and vocational training (FEED Bakery), to community and economic development work (Stable Families, Strong Community and the Northside Economic Development Coalition), our teams find commonality in the shared facility. Sometimes it looks like a messy desk shared between coworkers (sorry, John!) and other times it looks like a whiteboard overflowing with ideas for collaboration.

While the chaos of the summer tends to pull us in different directions, as the weather chills, we all come home to roost. The usual chatter of the building settles into a quiet hum as food carts leave and bakers and sauce makers begin to prepare for the holidays.

We always expect our to-do lists to shrink at this time of year, but they never do; procrastinated projects and new year planning keep us just as busy.

This winter, the Northside News team will be strategizing for next year’s full color editions and special feature issues. If you would like to join our team of volunteer writers, please reach out.

The schedule for the December/January issue this year fell a week earlier than usual due to the timing of Thanksgiving. We hope this makes it easier for readers to plan ahead for the first holiday events in early December. A brief article about Northside holiday assistance, volunteering and donations is on page 11, with more information at northsidenews.org.

Thanks to our readers, contributors, advertisers and the Northside News team for another year of community news. We are proud to provide 28 pages of local stories in each bimonthly issue, delivered to Northside homes and businesses for free.

If you enjoy reading the paper, please consider supporting the Northside News with a volunteer subscription this holiday season. Volunteer subscriptions help us continue providing quality news coverage for neighborhood issues.
