Lakeview Library has received an extremely generous bequest from Cheryl Sue Rosen Weston, a Maple Bluff resident who died in March. She was a University of Wisconsin law professor, co-founder of the Cullen, Weston, Pines and Bach law firm and CEO of the Douglas Stewart Co. Ms. Weston left $500,000 for Lakeview Library to fund a teen librarian and renovation of part of the library.

The gift will provide for a teen services librarian at Lakeview Library for three years. “We are currently in the process of getting this new position approved by the City, and then will proceed with the hiring procedure,” said Tana Elias of the Madison Public Library.

“The renovation will involve the front area of the Lakeview Library, but may extend to other areas based on the needs of the project,” added Gregory Mickells, director of the Madison Public Library. “The scope is to deliver a space that can accommodate an attractive and more robust collection of popular materials in an  environment that welcomes the reader and promotes curiosity. Her gift will support the renovation and provide the funds to enhance the collections in the space.”

Rosen Weston also gave $500,000 to the Madison Public Library Foundation to support the Wisconsin Book Festival for five years.
