Madison Police Officer David Dexheimer, the North District Neighborhood Resource Officer, is retiring April 1. Officer Dexheimer was hired in 1996 and has spent nearly 23 years serving the Madison community. He spent a majority of his career policing the Northside, with assignments of afternoon patrol officer, Vera Court Neighborhood Officer, North District Community Policing Team, and his most recent assignment as the North District Neighborhood Resource Officer.

The Neighborhood Resource Officer position began in 2015 as a way to provide extra service to multiple emerging neighborhoods and improve neighborhood safety. Officer “Dex” has taken community policing to new levels on the Northside. He has worked with stakeholders, landlords, neighborhood associations, schools, business associations, youth groups and community members to make the area safer.

Officer Dexheimer’s outreach efforts include the monthly Coffee with a Cop meetings, Reading with Kids projects, Vera Court Rocket Club, Kickin’ it with a Cop kickball series, Northside Peace March, Truax Chili Supper and Community Safety Night, Community and Police Listening Circles, and the Youth Police Initiative. He has attended numerous neighborhood association meetings and other community meetings where he has provided updated crime trend information and safety tips.

We thank Officer Dexheimer for his many years of service and wish him well in retirement.
