The 29-acre historic wetland remnant between North Sherman Avenue and the Oscar Mayer property is host to native Wisconsin birds, pollinators, frogs and other wildlife that nest, feed and raise their young in the pond, marsh, surrounding oak openings and upland areas.
Northside residents who want to help preserve and restore this area met recently at Manna Café to form a new group called Friends of Hartmeyer Natural Area. The group can be contacted through Paul Noeldner at paul_noeldner@hotmail.com or call 608-698-0104.
