Despite the on-going pandemic, East Madison Community Center (EMCC) is providing winter programs according to public health recommendations. The strong collaborative relationships of many groups make these
programs possible.

Through the generosity of many community churches, EMCC distributed 120 turkey/ham holiday food baskets and provided toys to over 80 families. Amazing volunteers assisted staff with the distributions outside in the cold. It was much different from previous years when EMCC hosted a festive holiday party but, nonetheless, the holiday programs endured.

As the winter temps began to drop, we saw an increase in requests for winter accessories. The Madison Knitters Guild, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and many community residents have been steadily donating mittens, scarves and hats, which we distribute through the food pantry. Cozy toes and fingers prevail.

In response to requests, EMCC provided a community CPR/AED class led by community member Johnny Winston. The course content is serious yet is presented in a relaxed setting. Due to COVID-19, the class size was limited, but we plan to host another class in the future.

Our HOPES Digital Access Program is off to a great start with many households in the Truax and Webb-Rethke neighborhoods taking part. This lending program provides hotspots and digital devices to Community Development Authority (CDA) housing complexes in the two neighborhoods and is supported by EMCC, the Universal Service Fund and CDA. Digital Literacy lessons will start soon as well.

The First Impressions Program continues to provide professional clothing to men for job interviews and on the job. This program is currently seeking donations of gently used and clean suits and business casual clothing. Contact EMCC at 608-249-0861 for an appointment to get clothing or to donate clothing.
