Community GroundWorks interns work and learn with us for one growing season. They specialize in either Urban Farming or Garden Education, and become critical and beloved staff members at Troy Farm, the Troy Kids’ Garden and the Goodman Youth Farm. Here they offer reflections on their experiences during the 2019 farming season.

What we are taking with us: Plenty of teaching and farming know-how, and food preservation ideas. Confidence to grow our own and plenty of veggies, too. Many moments spent admiring the field and the wildlife that shares it with us. Beautiful pictures. A deeper appreciation for the Northside.

What we are leaving behind: Garlic and cover crops ready to grow in 2020. Shiitake mushroom logs, artwork and signage. A new compost bin and a pack shed that (we hope) won’t blow away. A program moving toward greater food access for all people. Smiling children and happy farm members. Our energy and passion are left behind, but also traveling with us to the next adventure.

Are you interested in working for Community GroundWorks? Internship applications for our 2020 farming season will be available in early January. Contact kim@communitygroundworks.org for more information.
