New FEED Kitchens Manager Chris Brockel has also been the coordinator for Northside Planning Council program Healthy Food For All (HFFA) since it began. So what does his new role at FEED mean for HFFA? In addition to managing FEED, Brockel will continue to coordinate HFFA along with volunteer manager Joe Mingle.

This summer like every summer since 2015, HFFA will glean and redistribute fresh produce from local farms, bringing excess food and items with small blemishes to FEED Kitchens to clean, package and deliver to Madison meal sites and food pantries.

HFFA has also announced several new partnerships with local organizations to begin this season.

Doing the Wright thing

In April, HFFA began partnering with the Monona Terrace to redistribute food leftover from conferences and events. Twice a week, Mingle picks up items including packaged sandwiches, meats, finger foods, pastries and cut fruit, and delivers them to meal sites like the Salvation Army and Dryden Terrace.

Going green at the green

Professional golfer, event host and Northside resident Steve Stricker isn’t the only showing this side of town will make at the American Family Insurance Championship this year. Spot HFFA at University Ridge Golf Course this June helping to reduce food waste from the event, which saw over 65,000 people turn out to watch in 2018.

Taking food waste off the menu

As Aldo Leopold Nature Center emphasizes eco-friendly events, HFFA will move them closer to their goal by collecting excess food from caterers. With over 30 weddings scheduled at the center this summer, HFFA will be welcoming new volunteers to help rescue and redistribute the additional food.
