Warner Aquatic Center still on hold

The Warner Aquatic Health & Fitness Center is still on hold, waiting for a letter of support from Mayor Paul Soglin. Since the City of Madison doesn’t have any money in the budget for a pool, we need a letter showing that the city supports the pool being built in Warner Park as long as it doesn’t require a city subsidy. After we receive the letter, we can do a financial feasibility study. The study will tell us if the pool will need to be done in stages or if we can raise enough money to do it all at one time.

The first stage would be a 50-meter by 22.8-meter competition pool and a warm-water fitness and therapy pool in order to cover operating costs. Our goal is to provide affordable swim lessons to every child who wants them.

The Circle of Friends (CoF) will do fundraising throughout all of Dane County because the Warner Aquatic Center will serve the entire area. We will need the support of the swimming community to be successful.

Mike Ivey wrote an article about the Warner pool in the Aug. 10 Isthmus. You can read it online at http://isthmus.com/news/news/madison-pledge-for-another-pool-may-be-too-costly/.
