Congratulations to Lindbergh fifth-graders Justin Dieter and Kenny Young, who received the Children’s Theater of Madison (CTM) Kindness Award in December. CTM celebrates youth who are making a positive difference in their school, community and the world through their Kindness Campaign.

CTM acknowledged Justin and Kenny, and other award winners, for their community engagement with an award presentation, four tickets to a performance of CTM’s “A Christmas Carol,” photos with the cast, a backstage tour of the Capitol Theater and two tickets to the three remaining CTM shows this season.

Lindbergh’s Library Media Technology Specialist, Mandy Meloy, recommended Justin and Kenny for their work as a team of “tech ninjas.”

In spring 2017, when Lindbergh began providing Chromebooks for every student, the technology team had to figure out how to work with administration, staff, teachers, families and students on how use the Chromebooks and be good digital citizens (use technology appropriately and safely). The team piloted a program called “tech ninjas” and asked fourth and fifth-graders to apply for a job helping others learn to use the technology and troubleshooting problems. Kenny and Justin applied, were accepted into the program, and worked with kindergarten and first-grade students. They displayed endless patience in working with these young students. They also worked with second-graders to write and record a script about being good digital citizens.

Kenny and Justin continue to help the younger grades with technology and digital citizenship and are also responsible for the Wednesday morning announcements at school. They incorporate the Positive Behavior Theme of the month and work together to create, write and video record the announcements. They are on time and professional.

Kenny and Justin are a true team. They listen to each other, help and collaborate together, and make the school a positive place. They are polite, respectful and always willing to help. A shout out to Justin and Kenny and their families, as well as all young people who are spreading kindness. You make a difference and your voice matters.
