NBA donates check to Northside food pantries

Breakfast with Santa raised $4,400 for Northside food pantries at the popular  December 2023 event staffed by Northside Business Association (NBA) to incrase profits to help others in need. The giant check was presented at the Jan. 16 NBA  meeting. City of Madison Planning Division

The Neighborhood Grant Program of the City of Madison Planning Division helps neighborhoods beautify gateways, create public gathering places, or build organizational capacity and leadership skills. In 2024, the city expects to award $25,000 in grants.

Firefighters cook up energy at Fire Station 10

Firefighters at Station 10 on the Northside work 24-hour shifts and need to eat during that time, while also being ready to respond immediately if a call comes in.

They solve that problem by preparing their own meals. Someone is designated to be the cook who plans and is in charge of cooking. Then the firefighters working that day chip in money to pay for the food to be cooked. Then a shopping excursion is planned — in the firetruck — which means that if a call comes in, the firefighters respond, and shopping is delayed.
