Oscar Mayer Special Area Committee

The 2017 City of Madison budget allocates $100,000 for a Special Area Plan for the Oscar Mayer (and adjacent) sites. City staff, Alder Kemble and I are just beginning to have discussions about the scope of the planning process, the use of consultants, and the establishment of a citizen committee.

We are focusing on establishing a committee that will have strong engagement with the community, including nearby residents and region-wide perspectives. We are interested in hearing a variety of views and interests to generate the best potential reuse plan possible. We expect to begin the committee sometime in June, which means we have only a few months to lay the groundwork, including appointing members of the committee.

At this point, if you have an idea for a sector that needs to be represented on the committee, an opinion on what areas the plan should incorporate, or other thoughts on the process of establishing a planning process, please let me know.

In a few months, I’ll provide more information about how you can apply to be on the committee, learn more about the site and future reuse opportunities, and voice your opinion about what you see as the potential for this site.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at lpalm@cityofmadison.com.
