The Friends of Lakeview Branch Library hold their next Quarterly Book Sale Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 am‒4 pm, with a members-only sale Friday, Dec. 8, 6 pm‒7:45 pm, and a Saturday bag sale 2‒4 pm. All proceeds fund library programs.

Preschool Art Class
Monday, Oct. 2, 10:30 am

Experiment with collage, watercolor painting and more as we share a story and create art with local artist, Amy Mietzel. Smocks or “messy” clothes recommended. No registration required.

Drop-in Preschool Storytime

Grab your friends for multiplayer Minecraft fun at the library and connect to the library’s private servers for a customized gameplay experience using MinecraftEDU. No account necessary. Bring your own computer or use one of ours. Minecraft programming is funded by a gift from the Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Foundation.

Family Movie Night: “LEGO Batman”

Join us at the library for a full-length family movie. A cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City, while discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan who wishes to become his sidekick.

Join us at the library for a full-length family movie. George and Harold, two overly imaginative pranksters, hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.

Gentle Yoga with Kristin Sage
Fridays, Sept. 22‒Nov. 10, 1‒2 pm
This eight-session yoga series focuses on mindful movement and breathing to provide support for posture and balance. This introductory series is appropriate for those who can move from the floor to standing without assistance and is appropriate for those new to yoga. Bring a mat, firm blanket or towel to practice and wear clothes comfortable for movement. Kristin Sage has been teaching in Madison since 2003 and provides gentle, attentive guidance in a warm, welcoming community space. Class is limited to 18 people. Registration required.

Huge Cookbook Sale

Friends of Lakeview Library will hold this special sale on the sidewalk in front of the library. The sale includes a large variety of cookbooks, including Pillsbury, Better Homes & Gardens, Betty Crocker, healthy eating, diet, vegetarian, ethnic, baking, desserts and vintage.

Movie Night: “Wonder Woman”
Friday, Oct. 20, 5:15‒7:45 pm
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time and finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. This film is rated PG-13. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. There is room for 50 guests and seating will be on a first come, first served basis. Light refreshments will be served.

Lakeview Palooza
Saturday, Oct. 21, 10 am‒3 pm
This free family event provides musical entertainment, refreshments, face painting, a visit with a police dog and a chance to see a firetruck, police car and ambulance up close.

Day of the Dead

The whole family is invited to celebrate this wonderful tradition with stories, songs, crafts, traditional offerings and pan de muerto and hot chocolate.

A Portrait in Time

This is an artist reception and presentation with Melissa Enderle. Specializing in portraiture, Melissa’s artwork captures the essence of the people and places she has visited, with an emphasis on tradition and culture. Her highly detailed pieces are rendered in colored pencil, watercolor and pastels. She enjoys traveling and documenting her experiences through art, photography, videos and a travel blog. Melissa has held solo art shows in Tunisia, Serbia and India, and locally in Milwaukee and Madison. Two of her pieces are in museum collections in Serbia and Tunisia.

Movie Night: “The Big Sick”

Kumali is a Pakistani comic who meets an American graduate student named Emily at one of his stand-up shows. As their relationship blossoms, he becomes worried about what his traditional Muslim parents will think of her. When Emily suddenly comes down with an illness, Kumali finds himself developing a bond with her deeply concerned mother and father. This film is rated R. There is room for 50 guests and seating will be on a first come, first served basis. Light refreshments will be served.

Chocolate Truffles
Wednesday, Nov. 29. 6‒7 pm
Punky Eagan will demonstrate how quick and easy truffles are to make for the upcoming holidays. Sample espresso, hazelnut and mint truffles. The class is limited to 14. Registration begins Wednesday, Nov. 15.
