The Friends of Lakeview Branch Library hold their next Quarterly Book Sale Saturday, Sept. 16, 9 am‒4 pm, with a members-only sale Friday, Sept. 15, 6–7:45 pm, and a Saturday Bag sale 2‒4 pm. There are always great bargains and all proceeds fund library programs.

Read to a Dog
Saturdays, Aug. 12 and Sept. 9, 2 pm
Bring a favorite book (or find one at the library) and read aloud to a furry friend. Call the week of to register for a 15-minute slot or simply drop in.

Terrific Tuesdays
Tuesdays, Aug. 1, 8, 22 and Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26, 4‒5 pm
Join us for all sorts of creative projects. There will be arts and crafts, cooking, games and more. No registration is required.

Dream Bikes Mobile Repair
Thursday, Aug. 17, 1‒4 pm
Children can bring their bikes to the library and staff from Dream Bikes will do basic repairs to the extent of making the bike safe and functional within the capabilities of the mobile setting.

Library LEGO® Club
Tuesdays, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19, 4 pm
Join other LEGO fans and build your own unique creation. Note: LEGOs are the featured Terrific Tuesday activity for these two dates. No registration is required.

Library Laboratory
Friday, Aug. 11, 3:30‒5:30 pm

Are you sure it’s trash? Make cool stuff with things you might just throw away or recycle. Drop in to play games, have a snack, hang out and more in a special edition of Library Laboratory with TetraPAKMAN (Victor Castro). No registration is required.

Drop-in Preschool Storytime
Mondays, Aug. 7 and 14, 10:30 am
(children ages 3‒5, siblings welcome)
A happy blend of stories, fingerplays and songs that help preschool children develop print and phonologic awareness, vocabulary, letter knowledge and narrative skills. Groups welcome. No registration is required.

Toddler Time
Wednesdays, Aug. 2, 9, 16 and Sept. 20, 27
10 am and 10:45 am
(children ages 16‒35 months)
Enjoy stories, songs and activities. One adult per child is recommended. Note: class size may be limited. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please pick up a nametag from Miss Madeleine before storytime.

Book Baby

Minecraft® Club

Grab your friends for multiplayer Minecraft fun at the library. No account is necessary. Bring your own computer or use one of ours. No registration is required.

Movie Matinee: “Beauty and the Beast”
Saturday, Aug. 12, 2:30 pm
Disney’s live-action retelling of the animated classic refashions the characters for a contemporary audience. It is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true prince within. Rated PG for some action violence, peril and frightening images.

Amazing Amulet Parties
Thursday, Aug. 24, 10:30 am and 2 pm
Read like a Badger this summer and earn a golden ticket for entry into an Amazing Amulet party. Present your golden ticket for a chance to craft your own victory amulet. Take your amulet home with you, or add it to the library’s display of victors for all to see and marvel at the completion of your summer reading quest. A family friendly event, with amulet designs accessible to reading victors of all ages.

Lakeview Chess Club

We meet the second and fourth Monday of every month. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Watercolor Painting, a Bubbler program
Tuesdays, Aug. 22 and 29, 5:30‒7 pm
“Capturing the Beauty of Nature” is a two-session class where you will learn watercolor painting with artist Char DeVos. All supplies will be provided. Registration begins Aug. 8.

Salad Supper
Thursday, Aug. 24, 6:30‒7:30 pm
Bring some produce from your garden to add to a community salad bowl. Let us know if you have used the seeds from the Lakeview Library seed garden so we can see how your garden grew with the library seeds. We will provide tableware, bread, salad dressing and beverages.

Preschool Art Class

Experiment with collage, watercolor painting and more as we share a story and create art with local artist, Amy Mietzel. Smocks or “messy” clothes are recommended.

Family Movie Night: “Moana”

Join us at the library for a full-length family movie. We’ll provide the popcorn. In Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches an impetuous chieftain’s daughter’s island, she answers the ocean’s call to seek out the demigod to set things right. Rated PG for peril, some scary images and brief thematic elements.

Computer and eBook Assistance

We offer free one-on-one sessions for help with basic computer and internet literacy, including online job searching and applications, using email and Facebook and e-reader setup and assistance. Call 246-4547 to make an appointment.

Learn how to put your garden to sleep for the fall/winter season. Hosted by Lakeview Library garden volunteers Gail and Jim, this program will take place in September, day and time to be announced.

The Lakeview Library now has a TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator available for 28-day checkout. All you need is a library card in good standing and an ID. Just ask at the information desk.
