Fall is here. It is a great time of the year. We had a busy summer, but I hope you had a safe and fun summer.

The Northside, like the rest of the city, experienced an increase in violence, but we believe the worst is over. I’m sure you have heard enough about the shootings and homicides, so I’m going share with you some of the positive programming we did this summer.

We started the summer by teaming up

with the Madison Mallards to host a bike rodeo with many fun activities, food and free bike helmets. Later we started a kickball league with teams from different Northside neighborhoods. Also, in the Vera Court neighborhood, we had a rocket club, where children had classroom instruction, read a book on space, used their imaginations to build space stations and shot off rockets they had built. A big thanks goes out to Officers Jim Dexheimer and Alex Nieves Reyes for all the work they did on these projects and the work they do in our neighborhoods.

I also want to thank the residents who attend our Coffee with a Cop every third Thursday of the month at 9 am at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center. It is very helpful to receive the feedback and information. We have the highest attendance in the city.
