Fire starting, geocaching, outdoor cooking, stargazing, eating doughnuts on a string, wrapping leaders up as mummies, learning knots, carving wood, ghost stories, tag, setting up tents, sleeping in tents, fellowship, friendship and fun. These are just a few of the things Cub Scouts in Pack 127 did in October.

Some of our fifth grade Arrow of Light Scouts got a little taste of Boy Scouting when they joined Boy Scout Troop 127 on a campout at Lake Kegonsa State Park. They learned how to build, light and maintain a campfire. They started a woodcarving project while learning the proper way to use a pocketknife, and they had fun helping with camp chores. The weather was great, and the scouts had a great time.

Troop 127 put on a great Halloween Party for us. The Boy Scouts planned the games, food and activities for Pack 127 and Girl Scout Troop 2082, which also calls Sherman Avenue United Methodist Church home. The scouts got to wrap their leaders up like mummies, eat doughnuts off a string without using their hands, and participated in many other fun activities. The scout groups enjoy a few activities together throughout the year, including the Halloween Party and November leaf raking.

The weather was great for our overnight campout at the church, where we enjoyed camping activities held close to home with the convenience of a kitchen and indoor plumbing. It was a family campout, and our scouts and their families enjoyed lots of activities, all while working on their advancement (because we’re tricky that way). When everyone was tired out, we enjoyed fun and fellowship around a campfire.

If all of this fun and the learning sound like something you and your first through fifth grade boys would enjoy, check us out on Facebook at Cub Scout Pack 127 Madison or contact Cubmaster Justin Sargent at iscuba@sbcglobal.net or 220-2342. We promise your whole family will have fun. Cub Scout Pack 127 is open to all boys and their families who want to have fun, have adventures and play and learn together.
