This month my message to all friends of Warner Park Community Recreation Center was going to be an update on finding a contractor to do the financial feasibility study of the Warner Aquatic Health & Fitness Center.

Unfortunately, there is nothing to report since we are still waiting for the letter from Mayor Paul Soglin in support of the facility at Warner Park if the Circle of Friends can raise the funds to pay for it. We need the letter to show the mayor’s support before we start reaching out to the community even if there will not be any city funding.

Mayor Soglin has supported a pool at Warner Park in the past and has always said one would be built here. However, there isn’t any money for a pool in the city budget and the way finances are going, there won’t be in the future. Priorities have changed but the need for an indoor pool, offering affordable swimming lessons for all children, is growing and can’t be ignored much longer.

Hopefully, we will receive the letter of support soon so we can move ahead on seeking support from the larger community. I will keep you in the loop.
