Boy Scouts enjoyed summer adventures

Boy Scout Troop 127

Northside Boy Scout Troop 127 has had a busy summer. Ten scouts and leaders attended summer camp at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation near Mauston for a week of fun, merit badge work and hanging with friends. The week was busy for all the boys, and the leaders enjoyed their activities as well. Every day was busy from sun up to sundown with campfires, food, learning new skills and making friends.

Three weeks later boys and leaders headed up to Lake Superior for a week of sea kayaking, camping and fishing in and around the Apostle Islands. Highlights for the week included great fishing, exploring sea caves that can be seen only by boat, and hiking on deserted islands. Scouts built confidence by proving their skill on the open waters of the lake. Our guys spent several months preparing for the trip — planning equipment and food requirements, physical conditioning and attending kayak classes at Rutabaga Paddlesports.

These high adventure trips are what our scouts plan for. We had a great summer and are gearing up for a big fall with outings every month, including winter. We’re working on plans for summer camp and adventure, possibly in the western states. We camp every month. We love fishing, ultimate disc sports and just hanging around a blazing campfire telling stories.

We are a troop that welcomes all boys 11 years and older. We meet most Thursday nights at St. Peter Catholic Church at 6:30 pm. If adventure is what you are looking for, contact our Scoutmaster, Paul Hughes at psusparks@gmail.com or 215-5374 for more information.
