While most of us are content to snuggle under our blankets during winter, the scouts of Troop 127 are busily involved with a variety of outdoor activities. The troop is sponsored by St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Sherman Avenue United Methodist Church.

In January Boy Scout Troop 127 visited Devil’s Lake State Park for a hike using snow shoes. They also went sledding on Sanitarium Hill, skiing and snowboarding at Tyrol Basin, and competed against other scout troops at the council-sponsored Klondike Derby. That event was a full day of competition testing all kinds of scouting knowledge from first aid to knots, building on the concepts of teamwork and spirit.

They are also planning a cabin outing where scouts will cook their own meals, as well as enjoy hiking, ice fishing and advancement.

If your son says “I’m bored,” maybe it’s time to get out from under the blankets, put down the cell phones and check out the scouting program. There is plenty to do outside during the winter. Come check us out.

Boy Scout Troop 127 is an active troop on Madison’s Northside. It offers young men between the ages of 10‒18 a chance to be part of the larger Boy Scout program with its 100-year history of providing fun activities that develop young men into future leaders.
