An exhibition of new work will be on view at the VSA Wisconsin Gallery from Oct. 1–Nov. 30. The exhibition showcases the work of Marcus Tauch and Mauree Childress. A free-to-the-public opening reception will take place Friday, Oct. 6, from 5‒9 pm as part of Madison’s Fall Gallery Night.

“We All Have Abilities,” a painting by Mauree Childress

Mauree, who is paralyzed from the waist down, likes to combine textiles with painting. She uses fiber reactive procion dyes and various techniques to dye the canvas. She then paints with acrylics to tell a story or share a feeling, to “say” something, or simply to enjoy colors.

Marcus has a cognitive disability and uses pen and marker to draw both real and imagined landscapes, buildings and farm structures rendered with a detailed architectural style. He’s inspired by driving through the countryside, art and movies, as well as everyday household items. Marcus likes to describe his work as “an open divergent version of abstract substructures.”

The mission of VSA Wisconsin is to expand the capabilities, confidence and quality of life for children and adults across the age and disability spectrum by providing programs in dance, drama, creative writing, music and visual art.
