A new Aging Mastery Program for adults age 55–plus is now available from the National Council on Aging in Washington, D.C. The core curriculum and topics encourage adults to develop “sustainable behaviors” in 10 areas that lead to improved health, stronger economic security, enhanced well-being and increased community engagement.

Not that long ago, adults at retirement didn’t have many years to navigate, but now living 20‒30 years after retirement is common. Along with evidence-informed knowledge by local experts, participants engage in discussion and goal-setting and receive feedback, peer support and encouragement. Topics include: financial fitness, medication management, nutrition and hydration and community engagement.

The next five-week session is scheduled Thursday evenings, Sept. 28‒Oct. 26, from 5:30‒8:30 pm at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center. Each session consists of two different topics. Cost for the program is $99, which includes class materials, incentives, camaraderie and light fare. Space is limited so register early by calling the Madison Senior Center at 266-6581, where more information and scholarships are available. The program is made possible by an anonymous donor from the Madison Community Foundation.
